Melody Wasco is returning for her second year of coaching, and this season she steps into the role of Head Coach. Last year she served as an Assistant Coach and loved building relationships with the swimmers and families.
Melody is a graduate of Shawnee Mission South and attends Missouri State University, where she is pursuing a degree in Digital Fashion Merchandising. Her love for swimming began at age 10, and the sport has been an important part of her life ever since.
She is excited to return to Brookridge in a leadership role and looks forward to creating a positive, encouraging, and safe environment where swimmers can grow their skills and confidence in the water!
Zane Laing will be joining us as an assistant coach this summer. He was a Shawnee Mission East varsity swimmer and qualified for State all four years, and also swam for Mission Marlins for 12 years. Zane now attends the University of Kansas where he is in the five-year Master of Architecture program. One of his favorite things about swimming is the lasting friendships he built through the sport, including with Coach Emmy!
Emmy swam on the Shawnee Mission East Varsity team all four years and served as team captain her junior and senior years. She also swam for the KC Blazers from 2020–2025 and spent 12 years swimming for the Mission Marlins. Emmy now swims for Saint Louis University, where she is majoring in physical therapy. Her primary events are the 100 and 200 backstroke and the 200 IM. She is excited to be part of the Brookridge Sharks coaching staff and is looking forward to working with the kids this summer!
